Qualifications – Here’s What You Need:
- High School Diploma or 5 years of related experience.
- Fluency in one of the following languages:
- Hawaiian, Tagalog, Ilocano, Japanese, Mandarin
- Must have one of the following certifications:
- CCHI (Certification Commission for HealthCare Interpreters).
- NBCMI (National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters).
- CMI (Certified Medical Interpreter).
- HMIA (Hawaii Medical Interpretation & Assistance).
- FSI (Foreign Service Institute).
- MISS (Middlebury Institute Interpreter Certification).
- Experience working in:
- Health & Human Services.
- Medical Field.
- Familiarity with Medical Terminology.
- Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.
Minimum Skills Required:
- Must possess problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional oral communication skills.
- Ability to respond effectively to customers with a sense of urgency.
- Highly motivated with the ability to handle and manage multiple tasks at any one time.
- Ability to forge new relationships, individual and teaming in nature.
- Must be a Self-starter, that can work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a foreign language, linguistics or a related field.
- Medical Training.
Reports to: Program Manager
Working Conditions:
- Professional Medical setting.
- This position is on-call on a as needed basis. Interpreters will be notified within 48 hours of potential jobs.
- This position requires medical interpretation throughout the Hawaiian Islands.
- Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties extended periods of time.
- May be able to travel to different locations for in person interpretation.
- May be asked to work a flexible schedule which may include holidays.
- May be asked to travel for business or professional development purposes.
- May be asked to work hours outside of normal business hours.
