Responsibilities

Description of General Duties:

  • Provides operational, technical maintenance, and pyrotechnic support for visual cueing on the Fallon Range Training Complex. 
  • Responsible for operating and maintaining the Smokey SAM Simulators (Remote and manual) and Visual Cueing devices.
  • Performs tasks that require mainly physical abilities and effort involving setup and launching of Smokey Sam Visual Cues; cleanup and proper disposal of expended rockets; maintenance and teardown of launchers and controllers.
  • Performs systems maintenance and operations and applies technical knowledge to solve highly complex problems that typically cannot be solved by referencing manufacturer’s manuals or similar documents.
  • Provides technical guidance to lower-level technicians.
  • Work may be reviewed by supervisor for compliance to accepted practices.
  • Must be able to be certified to handle and launch pyrotechnics.
  • Performs courier duties when required.
  • Documents maintenance actions in Site Log and integrated Enterprise Management System (IEMS)
  • Performs corrosion control on equipment

Qualifications

Minimum Education Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent

 

Minimum Experience Requirements:

  • Three (3) years’ experience in general maintenance
  • One year’s range experience in visual cueing devices
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English

 

Minimum Position-Specific Training Required:

  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Class “B” pyrotechnics training
  • Physical as required per OPNV Instruction 5530.13C

 

Preferred Experience

  • Basic understanding of wireless networking
  • Basic understanding of remote desktop software

 

Citizenship and Security Clearance Requirements:

  • US Citizen
  • Obtain and maintain the appropriate level of clearance

 

Certification Requirements:

  • Class “B” Pyrotechnics Training
  • Compliance with OPNAV Instruction 5530 Qual/Cert Program

 

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands: 

  • Work is frequently performed in a shop or other facility environment that is moderately lighted, heated and ventilated. Occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock.
  • Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme temperatures, and vibration. 
  • Routine travel to remote site facilities may be involved. 
  • Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness. 
  • Must possess planning/organizing skills and must be able to work under deadlines.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. 
  • The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • May require work in high temperature, dusty or confined areas. 
  • May require wearing and/or use of protective equipment. 
  • Routinely lifts items weighing 15-25 pounds and occasionally in excess of 45 pounds.
  • May require climbing on structures, ladders, towers, and be properly trained in fall protection gear and procedures.

Pay Range

USD $38.90 - USD $38.90 /Hr.
