Job Title: Utility T&D (Transmission and Distribution) Process Expert
Location: Hybrid - 2-3 days on-site every other week - San Diego, CA
Type: Corp to Corp
Start Date: ASAP

Pay Rate:  $85-$92 per hour - 1099/C2C

Responsibilities

This role requires an accomplished professional with a deep understanding of utilities, specifically in the Transmission domain. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional skills in business process designworkshop facilitation, and requirements gathering to drive operational excellence. Key Responsibilities:

  1. Business Process Design:
    • Lead efforts to design, optimize, and document Transmission and Distribution processes for utility operations.
    • Ensure business processes are aligned with industry best practices, standards, and regulations.
    • Provide expert recommendations to enhance operational excellence through process improvements.
  2. Workshop Facilitation:
    • Plan, schedule, and facilitate workshops with stakeholders across the utility's Transmission and Distribution divisions.
    • Ensure workshops are interactive and result in actionable outcomes, including clear documentation of workflows, challenges, and opportunities.
    • Drive discussions to uncover business needs, process gaps, and innovative solutions.
  3. Requirements Gathering:
    • Translate business needs into detailed requirements for systems, processes, and operational workflows.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to capture current state and future state workflows, ensuring alignment with project objectives.
    • Act as the primary conduit between business teams and IT/technical teams to validate requirements.
  4. Industry Knowledge and Expertise:
    • Leverage in-depth knowledge of utility Transmission systems, processes, and regulatory environments.
    • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) to guide clients and internal teams on the development of Transmission and Distribution strategies.
    • Stay abreast of, and communicate, emerging trends, technologies, and standards in the utilities industry.
  5. Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:
    • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with business stakeholders, ensuring open and effective communication.
    • Present findings, recommendations, and process designs in a clear, concise, and professional manner.
    • Utilize data-driven insights and benchmarks to drive stakeholder confidence and decision-making.
  6. Assessment and Alignment:
    • Evaluate current utility Transmission processes to identify areas for improvement.
    • Ensure alignment of processes and methodologies with industry-leading practices and regulatory guidelines.
    • Develop roadmaps and process improvement plans that uphold organizational goals and compliance.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Domain Expertise:
    • Deep expertise in utilities, specifically Transmission processes, operations, and systems.
    • Proven understanding of Transmission and Distribution flow, substation operations, outage planning, and grid reliability workflows.
  • Process Design and Documentation:
    • Extensive experience in developing and documenting business process workflows.
    • Familiarity with relevant process mapping tools (e.g., Visio, ARIS, Lucidchart).
  • Workshop Facilitation:
    • Strong facilitation skills, with a track record of conducting requirement-gathering and design workshops for utility clients.
  • Standards and Methodologies:
    • Comprehensive understanding of industry standards such as NERC, FERC, ISO/RTO requirements, and other applicable regulatory frameworks.
  • Communication and Collaboration:
    • Ability to communicate complex transmission topics to both technical and non-technical audiences effectively.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with proven capacity to influence teams and stakeholders at all levels.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Prior experience implementing or working with grid management software and utility ERP solutions.
  • Experience in leveraging digital trends for utilities, such as IoT, predictive maintenance, asset performance management, or AI-driven grid monitoring.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall).
  • Certifications such as PMPLEAN Six Sigma, or Prosci Change Management.
