Overview

The Work

The Military Acculturation Advisor (MAL) is responsible for supporting the USAF RSAF English Language Training (ELT) program at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas. This role ensures the effective military acculturation of International Military Students (IMSs) through oversight, leadership, and mentorship designed to foster professional military attitudes, skills, and behavior. The MAL works collaboratively with Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) Country Liaison Officers (CLOs), Military Training Leaders (MTLs), and program managers to achieve acculturation, academic success, and program goals. 

 

This position performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of Cayuse.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a military advisor and leader, supporting acculturation efforts for participants in the USAF RSAF English Language Training (ELT) program. 
  • Apply a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a military supervisor to ensure effective oversight and guidance. 
  • Utilize military instructor experience (if applicable) to enhance the acculturation experience and optimize participant development. 
  • Collaborate with program managers and other stakeholders to fulfill acculturation objectives and ensure alignment with program requirements. 
  • Enforce standards outlined in relevant military guidance documents, including best practices for acculturation programs designed to instill professional military attitudes, bearing, and behavior. 
  • Partner with RSAF Country Liaison Officers (CLOs) and Military Training Leaders (MTLs) to enable acculturation while maintaining communication to de-conflict and avoid duplicative efforts. 
  • Promote skills in interpersonal relationships, adherence to military customs and courtesies, adaptability to the military environment, and academic advancement. 
  • Evaluate, mentor, and counsel RSAF ELT IMSs regarding their military and academic progression, and identify and address motivation, discipline, or academic issues with tailored remediation. 
  • Support RSAF ELT IMS participation in military events such as Retreat Ceremonies and formal Air Force parades. 
  • Develop and implement disciplinary processes to maintain student adherence to professional military attitudes, behavior, and academic responsibilities. 
  • Support RSAF IMS participation in the Field Studies Program (FSP), coordinating with the Sheppard RSAF Program Manager (PM) and 82nd Training Wing (TRW).
  • Conduct weekly dorm inspections using locally approved checklists and ensure weekly linen exchanges. 
  • Report repair needs to the U.S. Government (USG) Facility Manager. 
  • Provide on-site student oversight 24/7, coordinating with RSAF MTLs to maximize supervision coverage. 
  • Maintain a ratio of at least one Military Acculturation Advisor/Leader for every 20 students, ensuring proper staffing levels for the total student body. 
  • Oversee and manage accountability for up to 150 RSAF ELT IMSs and their dormitory rooms, including 24-hour emergency phone support. 
  • Develop and maintain a student management system to ensure accurate accountability and propose technological solutions to address facilities limitations. 
  • Document and report significant disciplinary or non-compliance issues to the RSAF Program Manager and Contracting Officer Representative (COR). 
  • Conduct counseling sessions for students struggling with motivation, discipline, or academic progress. 
  • Document FSP events for each IMS on approved forms (e.g., AF 1217 or its electronic equivalent).
  • Augment supervision of FSP trips, ensuring student accountability and discipline as required.
  • Provide and oversee vehicle transportation services in support of RSAF IMSs at Sheppard AFB. Ensure daily driver coverage from 0700-1800, leveraging military acculturation advisors/leaders for additional transportation support as needed while maintaining primary focus on military acculturation duties. 
  • Authorize and provide transportation for: 
    • Off-base medical or dental appointments in the Wichita Falls area. 
    • Travel to/from local banks for official RSAF IMS transactions. 
    • Official arrivals and departures at the Wichita Falls Regional Airport. 
    • Participation in official FSP events and day trips. 
    • Other authorized official-use trips within a 150-mile radius as determined by the TPM/COR. 
    • Coordinate contingency transportation in rare situations (e.g., weather-related diversions) for RSAF IMSs arriving or departing from locations other than Wichita Falls Regional Airport, contingent upon prior COR approval and cost negotiation. 
    • Ensure transportation activities strictly adhere to scope limitations, excluding non-official purposes (e.g., recreational trips to malls or base facilities). 
    • Maintain accurate records of authorized transportation trips, verified through communication with ELT Support Staff, RSAF CLOs, or the IMSO. 
  • Assist Testing Control Officer (TCO) and/or ELT Instructors in administering ALCPT tests as required. 
  • Ensure accountability of enrolled students daily and document efforts to encourage participation in scheduled classes and activities. 
  • Participate in classroom instruction as guest speakers, explaining military terminology and concepts encountered in follow-on technical training. 
  • Develop and implement a transition plan to support RSAF ELT IMSs’ progression into advanced technical training programs upon achieving required English proficiency levels. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications – Here’s What You Need

  • At least two (2) years of experience as a military supervisor. 
  • Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.

  • Proficient in MS Office, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as a military instructor.

  • Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties extended periods of time.
