Overview

The Network and Computer Systems Administrator, SME, will be responsible for managing, overseeing, and optimizing the patch management process within our client’s program. This role involves ensuring all desktops, laptops, and remote desktops maintain compliance with security policies and are up to date with patches to mitigate vulnerabilities. As an integral part of the team, the SME will work in close collaboration with end users, IT staff, and security teams to coordinate the deployment of patches, address technical challenges, and implement solutions that ensure consistency and system reliability across the client’s environment.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership and lead the end-to-end patch management process for desktops, laptops, and remote desktops within the client’s ecosystem to maintain security alignment and operational efficiency.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive patch management schedule to ensure timely deployment of software patches across all relevant systems.
  • Collaborate with end users to ensure clear communication regarding patch deployment schedules, system reboots, and the resolution of issues arising during the update process.
  • Work directly with IT and security teams to evaluate, test, and apply patches, particularly for critical vulnerabilities, while minimizing disruptions to users and operations.
  • Perform risk and impact assessments for missing or applied patches, documenting potential vulnerabilities and implementing remediation plans.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting, technical expertise, and resolution for patch-related user or system issues, escalating to other teams or vendors when necessary.
  • Leverage tools such as Microsoft WSUS, SCCM, and similar platforms to automate the patching process and ensure efficient deployment.
  • Develop and maintain up-to-date documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs) for patch management activities and system configurations.
  • Conduct regular compliance audits and assessments to ensure adherence to policies, data security regulations, and best practices.
  • Stay abreast of current cybersecurity trends, vulnerabilities, and patch technologies to anticipate and respond to evolving threats effectively.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology (IT), Computer Science, or a related field. Relevant and equivalent work experience (minimum 10 years) may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • At least 10 years of hands-on experience in patch management or a related IT role.
  • Strong understanding of patch management principles, processes, and tools such as Microsoft WSUS, SCCM, or equivalent solutions.
  • Proven experience implementing automated patch management solutions and ensuring deployment consistency across environments.
  • Expertise in developing and maintaining documentation for patch management policies and ensuring compliance with security best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in assessments, audits, and other patch management compliance checks.
  • Secret Security Clearance is required.
  • Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.

  • Proficient in MS Office, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Desired Requirement:

  • Familiarity with the client’s IT environment (highly preferred).
  • Relevant certifications such as CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) or CPMP (Certified Patch Management Professional) are a bonus.

Working Conditions

  • Professional office environment.
  • Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties extended periods of time.

  • Occasional movement within office environments or secure technical facilities to inspect, diagnose, or maintain systems.
  • Light physical activities, such as lifting and carrying IT equipment (e.g., laptops, peripherals) weighing up to 25 pounds, may be necessary.
  • Must be able to establish a productive and professional workspace.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time looking at computer screen.

Pay Range

USD $120,000.00 - USD $130,000.00 /Yr.
